Set in a coal mining village in the 1980s, One Big Blow portrays the two sides of the miners' lives - the tough conditions under which they work and the effect this has on their health, and their escape from this when they play in the colliery brass band.

However even this escape is tainted when Wally, the lead cornet player, begins to suffer from Black Lung disease and can play no more. Now the search is on to find a replacement.

First seen at the Hyde Festival Theatre in 2007 when it was a sell-out. It wen on to tour the UK in 2007/08 playing to more sell out houses in venues such as the national Coal Mining Museum for England, Wakefield; The King's Head, Islington and Buxton Fringe.

It is going to be part of Tameside MBC's contribution to the 2012 cultural olympiad as their theme is brass bands. This particular production will begin in Hyde at The Hyde Festival Theatre and will then tour to a variety of venues including The Big Pit in Blaenafon, South Wales which is the coal mining museum for Wales; The Mart Theatre in Skipton and The Swallow Theatre in Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN THE PIT - DON’T MISS IT
